You’re Not Lazy…Your Body Is Protecting You
If you’ve ever found yourself thinking,
“Why can’t I just get it together?”
“I know what I should do… why can’t I do it?”
“What’s wrong with me?”
I want you to pause right here and hear this clearly:
You are not lazy.
You are not broken.
And you are not failing.
What you may be experiencing is your nervous system doing exactly what it’s designed to do: protect you.
What We Often Call “Laziness” Is Actually Protection
Many of the things we label as laziness fatigue, procrastination, brain fog, lack of motivation, emotional shutdown are actually your body’s protective response to overwhelm.
When your nervous system has been under prolonged stress (birth, trauma, sleep deprivation, chronic pain, emotional overload), it may shift into survival mode. In that state, your body prioritizes safety over productivity.
This can look like:
• Feeling frozen or stuck
• Struggling to start or finish tasks
• Wanting to rest but feeling guilty about it
• Feeling disconnected from your body or emotions
None of this means you’re doing something wrong. It means your system is doing its best to keep you safe.
How This Shows Up in the Body Especially the Pelvic Floor
Your pelvic floor doesn’t exist in isolation. It’s deeply connected to your nervous system, your breath, and your stress response.
When your body is stuck in a survival pattern, your pelvic floor may:
• Hold chronic tension
• Struggle to relax or coordinate
• Leak under pressure
• Feel heavy, painful, or disconnected
This is why pelvic floor symptoms often flare during stressful seasons of life not because you’re “weak,” but because your body is responding to what it perceives as threat.
At Prana, we don’t ask, “What’s wrong with you?”
We ask, “What has your body been carrying?”
Regulation Comes Before Motivation
One of the biggest misconceptions I see is the idea that healing requires more discipline, more pushing, more effort.
But the truth is:
You can’t will your way out of a survival state.
Your nervous system needs cues of safety before it can access energy, clarity, and motivation again.
That’s why pelvic floor therapy at Prana focuses on:
• Breathwork that tells your system, “You’re safe now”
• Gentle, functional movement that rebuilds trust with your body
• Education that helps you understand why your body is responding the way it is
• A calm, supportive environment where your whole system can finally exhale
When your body feels safe, things begin to shift often without forcing them.
This Isn’t About Doing More. It’s About Feeling Supported.
So many people come into my office feeling ashamed of how “unproductive” they’ve been.
They apologize for not doing exercises perfectly.
They worry they’re not trying hard enough.
I want you to know: healing doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from being met with compassion, understanding, and support.
Your body isn’t asking you to try harder.
It’s asking you to slow down and listen.
What If Nothing Is Wrong With You?
What if your exhaustion makes sense?
What if your freeze response is valid?
What if your body has been doing the best it can intelligently, instinctively to protect you?
At Prana Pelvic Health, we work together to gently bring your system back into balance, so energy, movement, and confidence can return naturally.
Not through shame.
Not through force.
But through safety.
If this resonates with you, you’re not alone.
And you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
Healing is possible and it doesn’t require you to push through.
It starts with listening.
