The Healing I Wish I’d Had: Why I Started Prana Pelvic Health and Wellness

If you’re here because something doesn’t feel right in your body because you’re leaking when you sneeze, feeling heaviness that won’t go away, or just sensing that you haven’t fully healed since giving birth.

I want you to know this:

You’re not broken. You haven’t failed. And you are absolutely not alone.

I started Prana Pelvic Health because I needed this kind of care, too—deep, compassionate, whole-person care that looked beyond “you’re cleared at six weeks.”

And I didn’t find it in the medical system when I needed it most.

Feeling Alone in a Room Full of People

After my own birth, I expected the exhaustion, the sleepless nights, and the changes that come with new motherhood.

What I didn’t expect was the profound sense of aloneness.

Even when I was surrounded by people—nurses, family, friends—I felt invisible.

There was trauma in my birth experience that no one seemed to see or name.

I had declined induction more than once, wanting to trust my body’s process. That choice wasn’t met with understanding. Instead, my doctor told me he “wouldn’t work with me anymore.” Hearing those words when you’re in early labor (vulnerable, scared, and just trying to listen to your body) is something that leaves a mark.

It wasn’t just physical trauma. It was the emotional pain of abandonment. The feeling that my voice, my instincts, and my needs didn’t matter. I think so many moms can relate to that, being surrounded by people, but still feeling completely alone in your own experience.

The Disconnection No One Talks About

When I finally started trying to connect with my pelvic floor again, it felt like this dark, empty space—like a void I couldn’t reach. I wasn’t just weak; I was numb. Numb from trauma, numb from exhaustion, numb from everything that had happened and everything I was trying to process while also holding this tiny new life in my arms.

I was learning to mother while also trying to make sense of what had happened to me. And that’s something we don’t talk about enough - the mess that can exist right alongside the love, the joy, and the gratitude.

I was grateful to have a healthy baby. I was grateful to have help. But I also felt broken in ways I didn’t know how to describe.

Support Changed Everything

I was actually fortunate in one major way: I had a friend who was a pelvic floor physical therapist. When I told her I was feeling pressure, she didn’t brush it off. She said, “That could be a prolapse…you should get checked.”

That single conversation changed the course of my healing.

At my six-week check-up, I asked my doctor to check specifically for prolapse. And she did, she confirmed it. Because I knew what to ask for, I was able to get a diagnosis early. That diagnosis led to something I know most new moms never get: time. Because of the nature of my job, I was able to go on short-term disability to truly heal before returning to work. My work required significant lifting, and that time off gave my body a real chance to recover.

It shouldn’t take having insider knowledge or a friend in pelvic health to get that kind of support. No one should have to luck their way into healing.

The Bigger Picture: Why I Built Prana

Looking back, I realize how many people fall through the cracks after birth. Most postpartum visits focus on the baby: how they’re growing, feeding, sleeping. Moms are often asked one question: “You’re good to go back to normal activity?” And that’s it.

But what if “normal activity” doesn’t feel normal anymore? What if you’re leaking when you sneeze, or feeling heaviness in your pelvis, or afraid to move in certain ways? What if emotionally, you feel completely disconnected from your body?

That’s where Prana Pelvic Health was born from the space between what I needed, and what I received.

From the realization that healing isn’t just physical, it’s emotional, nervous-system deep, and it deserves time, attention, and compassion.

At Prana, we do things differently:

  • We take time to understand your full story.

  • We never rush through care or dismiss symptoms.

  • We support both your physical body and your emotional wellbeing.

  • We help you reconnect with your breath, your strength, and your confidence.

You deserve more than clearance at six weeks: you deserve a guide, an advocate, and a space to truly heal.

What I Want Every Parent to Know L

If I could change one thing about postpartum care, it would be this:

At every six-week check-up, there should be a checklist that screens for pelvic floor dysfunction, questions that help identify prolapse, pain, leaking, or disconnection.

We could catch so many issues earlier, before they become chronic.

We could help parents feel empowered instead of dismissed.

And we could remind them that their healing matters just as much as their baby’s.

That’s the vision that fuels me every day: a world where new parents aren’t sent “back into the wild” after birth, but are given real, sustained support for their recovery.
